Today is our grandson's 2nd birthday. Happy Birthday Jeremy. We miss and love you.
We are a day ahead of Ontario, so it's actually tomorrow there. Or is it yesterday!

Before leaving the campgrounds, the guys emptied the holding tanks. This might
seem like an unusual topic, but the potty literally gets taken out and emptied. All units,
no matter how fancy, the owners all go for potty walks. We took the unit to the dump, but most people take the potty for a walk. Entertaining first time we saw that. Now we are used to it.

Tasman Sea |
|
The drive along the Tasman sea was breathtaking. The bluest water with huge boulders.

Cicada bug. Size relative to a paper clip.
Cicadas are probably best known for their buzzing and clicking noises, which can be amplified by multitudes of insects into an overpowering hum. Males produce this species-specific noise with vibrating membranes on their abdomens. The sounds vary widely and some species are more musical than others. Though cicada noises may sound alike to humans, the insects use different calls to express alarm or attract mates. |

Paparoa National Park. Pancake Rocks. |

Stunning Scenery |

Turkey, bird, chicken, duck or ???
It's called a Weka and is 53 cm. It is a very inquisitive flightless creature.
It's a woodhen. |

Picture taken out the back window to show the awesome roads we travel. |

Jade cutting stop in Hokitika. When we parked along the street, the awning on a store
was too low and got in Peter's way. The awning hit and scratched the top of the motor home.
On the positive side, Immy and I both bought a jade necklace. We decided we better buy some souvenirs before the deductible on the motor home drains us!

|
I got the front seat a while for some Kodak moments...
but soon had to use my thumb to get Peter to move over.
Diesel fuel stop. Now 1.79 per litre.
Arrived in Franz Josef Top 10 campground at 3:45 |
|
This campground reminded me of Seward, Alaska with the mountains in the back.
|
|
Every Top 10 campground has a huge kitchen fully loaded. We had bought bacon and
eggs and had lots of fun cooking and eating here.
Easy for me to talk. I took the pictures. |
|
Scrumptious. Worth all the work guys. |
|
Snow covered Mt. Cook in the background. It is 3764 metres high. |
|
Beautiful sunset with the mountains. |
|
Euchre and bed at 10:30. That's a first. Usually it's 9:30. |
Everything looks so spectacular! The water is such a gorgeous blue, and the surroundings are breathtaking! You look like you are having a fabulous time! How early does it get dark? What is the day temperature, and what is the night temperature? Why aren't you wearing hats in the sun all day?
ReplyDeleteIs New Zealand everything you hoped it would be? I wish we were there!
All our love,
Janice & Paul
That's great that you have those kitchen facilities available to you, I'm sure that makes the trip much nicer! I also loved seeing the faces in the rock - very neat:)
ReplyDeleteHi Alida and Marcel, Immy and Peter.
ReplyDeleteWe're following along seeing your wonderful photos, the scenery is breathtaking and the pancake rocks reminded us a bit of Hopewell Rocks in Moncton NB, but more majestic. The campgrounds with their kitchens look fantastic. So you have got used to driving on the left, we will all have to look out for ourselves on the road when you come home. Bye the way we had some snow today, but now the sun is out and it is melting, can Spring be far away?
God bless, continue keeping safe and have a memorable time
Love Gwenda & Ken
