Feb 27, 2012 Monday Day 18 Sydney

This is the way we dry our socks...early in the morning!

Ian dropped the 4 of us downtown.
First thing we did was the Captain Cook Harbour Cruise.

Harbour Bridge.  People walking on top.

Famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Started building in 1959, and the estimated cost and time was 7 million and 3 years.
It actually cost 102 million and 16 years.
The locals did not want to pay for it, so the money was raised by lottery.

Aboriginal playing the Didgeridoo.

Inside the opera house.  Inside the theatres, pictures were not allowed.
Three rotating operas to give the singers a chance to rest their voices.
Turandot.  The magic flute.  And The marriage of Figaro were playing at the time.

The concert hall holds 2600 people.  Very impressive. The pipe orgain has 10,000 pipes.
It took two years to tune.  We had a tour of the theatres.  But no pictures allowed.  There are
three theatres.  The studio the smallest, next the playhouse, with the drama theatre being the largest.

A beer by the harbour.

Ian picked us up again and when we arrived home, we were presented with a  box of gifts for our trip.
Two CDs, 2 jars of instant coffee, and 3 boxes of cookies.

BBQ steaks and chicken.  Hot potato salad.  And a scrumptious salad.
A bottle of champagne they had been saving for a special occasion.
The best evening ever.

Huntsman spider.  Crablike legs enable them to run both forwards and sideways.
This is just a little one.  They can get huge.  Yuck.
Blossom is looking a little sheepish.

Nathan trying the salted dutch licorice.  Not a success.

Decorating our ice cream.

Nathan and Karena.  Very sweet.

Beautiful family  We are so blessed by knowing them all.
In the evening Marcel showed them a very short version of our trip to Alaska and Nfld.

  2. Sydney Harbour was beautiful. I love the smiles a cold beer put on everyone's face as you stopped for a rest at the harbour.
I am glad you finally met our grandson Nathan ... isn't he a cutie?!
Quite the spread you are enjoying out on the deck at Chrissy's. I remember well the delicious meals Chrissy & Ian made for us when we were there.
I can't believe the variety of things you are experiencing on this fabulous trip. You have packed so much into a month.
We miss you and keep on enjoying your journey!
