March 7, 2012 Day 25 King's Canyon

Today was the best day.  Lots of gorgeous scenery with many different birds and plants.
2.5 hrs of walking on a couple of trails at Kings Canyon, Watarrka National Park.

On our way to Kings Canyon we made a stop and saw these beauties.
They are Spinifex Pigeons
Unlike other pigeons, they live permanently in one area;  where there is spinifex grass, rocks and drinking water.

Native Fuchsia.  Grows 1.5 m high.

Australian Ringneck.
We were so excited to see this bird.  Hard to get a good picture though.
Wild purple hibiscus
King's Canyon walk.

Waiting for Peter to get another soaker like he did in Alaska and Nfld.
He disappointed us all.

The colors of the trees against the red rock was breathtaking.
Love, love, love it.

Face in a tree trunk.

First time I saw holly growing in the wild.

Yellow-throated Miner
Peter is my climbing buddy.  If there's something to climb, he's there.

After we got diesel for 2.19 p/l, we arrived at our campsite.
These beauties were everywhere.  Galah.
Also known as the Rose-breasted Cockatoo
We had been told by other campers that the dingos roam freely here.
Just behind our mh, not 10 feet from us, we saw our first dingo.

We saw  many of them, they just roam through the campground.

This sight was quite funny.  The man in the background just came out of the shower, saw the dingo and turned around and went right back in.

Sunset over Kings Canyon was more beautiful than Uluru. View from our campsite.

A great day again.
Love to you all  Mom & Dad, Grandma & Grandpa, Marcel, Alida, Peter and Immy.

  1. Wow! If you want to see Nature's beauty at it's finest you have chosen two good countries. I like the face in the tree, it's a woman with long, curly hair.
The colours of the birds and the wild flowers are beautiful!
I agree with you about the sunset! The girth of the trees down there is amazing!
    As always Alida, magnificent photos!
    Enjoy!
We love you! Janice & Paul
