March 4, 2012 Sun Day 24 Ayer's Rock

This morning the guys were debating whether to take a helicopter ride.  After I lied to Peter about the price, he said yes.  After booking, and finding out the real cost, he said "he knew that wasn't the truth"!   How did he know??  We waited for the bus 15 min. and Immy went inside to check the time.  Our watches were one hour ahead.  We don't know when the time changed, or if we put the 1/2 hour time change the wrong way.  One of life's little mysteries.

Uluru  (Ayer's Rock)
Marcel had the old camera with him, so was able to take these great shots.

The Olgas in the distance.

The airport.

Immy and I were allowed to ride along in the bus.  We wanted to watch them and take pictures.
The helicopter  flew over Ayer's Rock (Uluru), and The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) and they also spotted wild camels.  About a million wild camels in Australia.

Crested Pigeon.
Yellow-throated Miner
They are the guardian of the bush, quick to notice any intruders and their strident calling alerts all birds to the potential danger.

Caranaby's Snake-Eyed Skink. (I think)

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.  Uluru (Ayer's Rock)
At night we drove here  to watch the sunset on the rock.

We pulled out the table and chairs and had sausage, cheese and crackers for supper.

Breathtaking sunset.

                                                                           After the sun set.

Another awesome day.
Love to you all.

  1. The views are breath-taking. Are there many insects, or is it too hot?
Is this Peter and Marcel's first time in a helicopter? What did they think of it? The view of Ayer's rock must have been amazing.
They have so many strange creatures in the land down under. The red earth still amazes me.
    Beautiful photos as always!
