March 13, 2012 Tue Day 33 Tennant Creek

Karlu Karlu  Devils Marbles.

We were here early in the morning to beat the heat.  Getting very hot already.

Devils Marbles are something quite marvelous. Enormous piles of smooth granite boulders, many as big as houses, stacked in jumbled piles or scattered over an immense area (1800 hectares, according to the sign) .Often perched on impossibly fine points.

On our way into the gold mine. Battery Hill Mining Centre.

I lasted about 15 minutes in this mine.  It was so hot and stuffy.  No air.
I made a dash for the exit, and waited for them in the mh.

Beer is a must with the hot weather.  All the liquor is under double lock and key in Australia. Marcel had to have his license scanned when he bought liquor.
Alcohol is such a problem with the Aboriginals.

Bougainvilleas are gorgeous everywhere.

Every new campsite comes with new gardens full of flowers.

  1. That looks like a seesaw Marcel is standing on! The scenery is absolutely spectacular. From what I've seen so far, it looks like it outdoes Alaska and Newfoundland. I suppose it would make you feel rather small to be in the middle of these huge rocks...

I love the picture of you and Marcel standing on the rock.
