March 6, 2012 Tue Day 26 Ayer's Rock

Coffee and cookies outside at 9 before we drove to Kata Tjuta /The Olgas  for more walking trails.
Awe-inspiring.  Enormous domes rising out of the sand. Kata Tjuta is the traditional aboriginal name for the Olgas and means 'Many Heads'.  There are 36 separate domes and the tallest is 200 meters higher than Uluru.

'Valley Of The Winds' walk at The Olgas.

Lizard

varanus gilleni, pygmy mulga monitor (I think)

The valley of the winds walk was the first trail.  And boy was it windy.  Wonderful for walking.

Drove the mh to the other side for our second walk.  The Walpa Gorge.

By the size of Marcel and Peter, you can see how huge the rocks are.

                                                               Back at our campsite.
This lizard is like the one we saw in the bathroom the first day.  Except this is just a little cute guy.

Tonight we went out to the Resort Hotel for a dinner buffet of seafood, game meats including emu, crocodile, camel and kangaroo.   Again by shuttle bus.  We saved 80 bucks on the 4th free night of camping, so we can spend $250 on this meal.  Balances out in my book.  I had kangeroo steak.  The other three a rib eye.  My steak was very tender, and the rib eye was the best they ever had.  Peter and I also had some crocodile stew, and when I told him what it was he said "no it's not".  We had a chuckle over that.

  1. You all look like little Smurfs surrounded by the enormity of everything. Beautiful!
The only way to feed Peter is not to tell him what he's eating until he has finished!
You look like pretty happy campers to me.
